Ball don't lie?

By now we have heard of the Ball family Lonzo, LiAngelo, LaMelo and the enormously confident father Lavar Ball. I must say I’m slightly torn on my thoughts of LaVar’s instant celebrity. Generally I’m all for being the best “You” can be in life in addition to teaching your children to have that level of confidence. On the other hand he gives off the impression that he has more confidence in his ability to bring attention to his son’s rather than establishing proof that they are as good as he publicizes. Sure it’s always great to see the media covering black men in a positive way and actually being in their children’s lives. We obviously still have a long way to go in order to get society to believe that more kids have fathers in their lives in the black community then not. However given the nature of LaVar’s recent comments about LeBron James and Michael Jordan, My opinions of this fiasco has altered. Ball don’t lie! Right? Or were all those games I played growing up on the basketball courts mean nothing at all? We have never paid this much attention to what a players father has said. So your son took an unknown school to a high school state championship in California and won. Named the NCAA player of the year averaging just over fourteen points per game for UCLA, but he was shut down by a superior Kentucky team. This might not matter to the average NBA scout who looks for individual stats, however to the general fan saying your son is better than a Stephen Curry, and guaranteeing he will win the NCAA championship is border line ridiculous if you don’t prove otherwise. Which is why the notion that this is all a marketing strategy to sell their brand makes sense. Parents take notes. This is going to be a normal occurrence in the future. If you think LaVar Ball is arrogant now, then I’m sorry to tell you it’s only going to grow from here. Soon all parents will be telling the world that their kids are the best to ever play, while subconsciously promoting the family business. Take a good look at what’s to come in all sports. The ball brothers can be average players in the NBA, but thanks to LaVar Ball they will always have the eyes of the media, because one thing is for sure whether they become the greatest of all time or the worst flop in NBA history as long as LaVar continues to open his mouth we will listen every time making some believe that maybe “ball does lie”.
